How the Import Process Works
Step 1: Tell Us What You Are Looking For
The import process begins with your request. We ask you to send us as much detail as possible about the dog you are looking for.
Please include:
- Breed desired
- Size range
- Gender
- Color or pattern
- Coat type, if relevant
- Purpose, such as pet, show, or breeding
- Age preference, if any
- Budget range
- Reference photos, if you have them
A reference photo is ideal because it helps us clearly understand the exact coat color, pattern, markings, and overall type you are looking for, especially since the same color term can appear differently depending on the breed, bloodline, coat texture, and age of the dog. It also allows us to guide you with correct color and pattern terminology, such as phantom markings, merle expression, sable shading, chocolate tones, or tan points, so the search matches what is realistically available within the breed.
Step 2: Estimated Quote and Seriousness Fee
Once we understand what you are looking for, we provide an estimated quote range that includes the expected cost of the dog and delivery to Miami. (See step 5 for nationwide delivery information)
If the estimated price works for you, we begin the search with a $100 seriousness fee. This fee goes toward the total price of the dog if the import request is completed. It allows us to begin contacting breeders, checking availability, reviewing options, and using our international connections to search for the right match.
If the client cancels the search after we begin working on the request, the $100 seriousness fee is non-refundable.
Step 3: We Search Through Our Trusted International Network
After the request is active, we begin searching through our breeder network. We do not simply rely on random online listings. We work with people and kennels we know, and we review each dog carefully before presenting it to the client.
When we find a suitable option, we send photos, videos, and available information for your review. This may include the dog’s age, gender, color, size estimate, pedigree details, vaccination status, structure, temperament notes, and travel availability.
If the puppy or dog is not the right match, we continue looking. We do not pressure clients into accepting a dog that does not match what they requested. The search continues until we find an option that is approved and realistic for your needs.
Availability and timing depend on the rarity of the request. Some puppies may be found quickly, while very specific colors, sizes, coat types, or show-quality requests may take longer. In many cases, once the right dog is approved, arrival can be completed within approximately two months, provided flight schedules and import logistics go according to plan.
Step 4: In-Person Verification, Scam Protection, and Vet Check
One of the most common problems people face when trying to import a dog on their own is scams. It can be difficult to trust someone in the digital world, especially when sending deposits to people you have never met. Unfortunately, many buyers end up paying a deposit, only for the seller to disappear along with a puppy that never existed. Others are shown one puppy online, but later receive a different dog, or the dog does not match the promised structure, color, size, or condition.
At Fancy Pets Planet, we take a much more personal and protected approach. Through our known network of trusted breeders, we have our trusted people check the selected dog in person before final approval and travel. We review the dog’s appearance, structure, condition, and overall match to the photos and videos provided to you, helping ensure that the puppy you approve is the puppy being prepared for arrival.
Each dog is also checked by a veterinarian prior to travel and arrives with a personal passport. Our role is to make the import process more transparent, professional, and realistic from the very beginning, giving clients confidence that their chosen dog has been properly reviewed before coming to the United States.
Step 5: Arrival in Miami and Nationwide Placement
By default, all imported dogs arrive first to Miami, Florida. Once the puppy or adult dog arrives and settles for a minimum of 72 hours, we perform another veterinary exam and issue a certificate of health before final pickup or onward delivery.
This step is important because international travel can be stressful for any puppy or adult dog. Even healthy dogs may need time to rest, adjust, eat normally, and settle after a long flight. We want to see the dog in person, confirm that the dog matches the approved option, and complete a local health review before the dog goes home.
This added step gives clients more confidence and helps ensure that the dog is properly received, observed, and cared for after arrival.
For clients located in Florida, the dog may be picked up locally in Miami once cleared and ready for transfer. For clients outside Florida, we can help arrange fly-nanny delivery to your nearest airport. Delivery pricing depends on the destination, travel schedule, and airline availability, and is paid directly to the nanny.
If the signed buyer picks up the dog in Florida, Florida sales tax will apply. If the dog is delivered out of state through arranged delivery, final delivery and possession occur outside Florida, and Florida sales tax does not apply. Any sales or use tax owed in the buyer’s state of residence shall be the sole responsibility of the buyer.
